When people hear the word wellness, they often think about exercise or healthy eating. While those are important, wellness is much broader—especially as we age. It includes staying curious, maintaining relationships, continuing to learn, finding purpose and enjoying life’s moments.
National Wellness Month each August reminds us that healthy aging isn’t about turning back the clock—it’s about continuing to grow.
At Friends Village, wellness takes many forms. Beginning Aug. 10, our Senior Planet technology classes return with practical topics like fraud prevention and digital wallets, helping older adults stay confident and connected.
Wellness is also found in the community. Our Men’s Den gathering on Aug. 12 from 9–10 a.m. features guest speaker Chris Slack discussing the history of baseball cards. With coffee, bagels and conversation, it highlights the importance of friendship and shared interests.
Caring for the body matters too. Our Yoga for Seniors classes return on Aug.17, offering gentle movement that improves balance, flexibility and peace of mind.
August also brings a chance to celebrate local history. As part of Newtown Celebrates 250, Friends Village invites the public on Aug. 8 for tea and refreshments while meeting Dr. Lettie Smith, portrayed by Ann D’Silva, alongside a close friend portrayed by Doris Carter. Dr. Smith’s legacy as a physician and educator continues to inspire.
If you’ve been curious about Friends Village, join us for our Paxson Hall Open House on Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. until noon. Whether planning ahead or simply exploring, we’d love to welcome you.
As summer gives way to fall, even more opportunities for learning, wellness and connection are on the horizon. Sponsorship opportunities and tickets are now available for our annual Friends for All Time Gala, and it’s a Disco Ball! Visit our website for further information.
Additional educational and social programs will be announced as we approach fall so make health and wellness a priority and don’t miss out. We encourage you to visit our website at www.friends-village.org or contact Barb Heverly at 215-968-3346 ext. 108 or at bheverly@friends-village.org.
Wellness isn’t measured by age—it’s measured by how fully we engage with life.
